If you’ve never touched a sewing machine, this class is for you! Learn to use a sewing machine in a friendly and welcoming environment while making a tote bag. Students may bring their own machine or use ours. All materials provided.
Upcoming sessions
Sat 10/17/26, 10am; Sun 11/8/26, 10am; Fri 12/11/26 12pm
Topics covered:
Sewing machine parts and terms
Setting up a sewing machine including winding a bobbin
Making a straight stitch
If you're bringing your own machine...
● It must be in working order. If you do not know if it works, please take it to a sewing repair shop (Montavilla Sewing Center for example) and have it looked over. There will not be enough time during class for instructors to diagnose and fix machines that are not ready to go. If your machine is not in working order, you may be moved to a studio machine at the instructor's discretion
● Please arrive 10 minutes early so instructors can look over the machine and familiarize themselves with it
● Bring the owners manual! Especially for older machines. If you don't have it, please do a search for it online and ideally print out the sections relating to setting it up.
