Fabric & Yarn Swap

2.5hrs

Help us with our largest event--our Fabric & Yarn Swap! See a description of shifts and jobs:


Shift 1: 11am-1:30pm 

Moving tables and chairs; Setting out initial donations; Setting out signage; Greeting guests; Keeping tables tidy; Assisting guests with sorting their contributions; Running merch table


Shift 2: 1:30-4pm

Greeting guests; Keeping tables tidy; Assisting guests with sorting their contributions; Running merch table; clean up after event ends: moving tables and chairs, packing up leftover materials, general tidying up


Both shifts: must be comfortable lifting up to 25lbs (with assistance) and moving around the studio

Radical Mending

2hrs 15min

Help community members mend clothing and other household textiles! Radical Mending is a drop-in workshop where we invite anyone to get help mending things like clothing, toys, bags, curtains and linens and more. Volunteers will help participants diagnose and mend their items using hand sewing only. All materials and tools provided. Please bring a (hand work) project of your own to work on during slow times!

Donate Materials

Donated materials allow us to lower barriers to sewing by providing free class supplies to all participants. 

All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Tax receipts are available upon request.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Cotton and 80/20 Cotton/Poly quilt batting, 36"x36" or larger

  • Quilting cottons in all colors and patterns, at least 1/2 yard or larger

  • Fusible interfacing 1/2y or larger

  • Working, clean irons

  • Working sewing tools

  • Modern sewing machines no older than 20 years old, in working condition only. 

WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING

  • Broken or incomplete sewing machines, machines that would require maintenance, tune ups, or parts to be operable. 

  • Apparel, upholstery, fleece, or polyester fabric

  • Fabric cuts less than a 1/2 yard

  • Clothing including neck ties

  • Dull scissors, rotary cutters, seam rippers, or other cutting tools

  • Upholstery fabric or samples

  • Yarn and knitting/crochet tools

  • Industrial sewing machines or equipment

  • Sewing machine tables or cabinets

  • Magazines, books, or patterns

  • Fabric and/or materials that are stinky, soiled, moldy, have holes or pet hair, or would require laundering before use
