Mending Skills: Darning Basics

$42-$60 |2.5hrs | Ages 16+

Required: Hand Sewing Techniques or equivalent skill level

Learn techniques for darning damaged and worn out clothing. This two and a half hour class will start with a discussion of tools and techniques used in hand darning before moving on to three techniques: plain weave darning (darning into the fabric), surface darning (darning as a patch), and honeycomb darning (blanket stitch). Sewing machines will not be used for this class, although there will be discussion on how to apply some of the techniques to machine darning.

  • Tools, thread, and other materials used for darning

  • Appropriate darning techniques for different repairs

  • Three darning methods: Plain Weave, Surface Darning, and Honeycomb Darning
