Youth Sewing and Craft Classes

Sincere Studio's youth sewing classes give kids a welcoming space to learn sewing and needle-craft skills. Students will get hands-on time with a sewing machine, build confidence through creative projects, and leave with a finished project. Our youth sewing classes are designed to be approachable, creative, and, most importantly, fun!  No experience necessary! All machines and tools provided.

Intro to Cross-stitch
(ages 10-16)

$77-$110 | 3hrs | Ages 10-16

with Aliya

No experience required

Learn the basics of cross stitch, an easy and addictive craft that just might become your new favorite hobby! Choose from several fun patterns and select your favorite thread colors to make a custom piece of fiber art. Cross stitch helps build hand-eye coordination and is an excellent entry point for other forms of hand sewing and embroidery. All tools and materials will be provided.

Topics covered:

  • How to manage thread and stitch with a blunt needle

  • How to create basic stitches and follow a pattern

  • Different ways to finish and display cross-stitch pieces

Please bring:

a water bottle, snack, and anything your child needs to be comfortable. Sensory aids are welcome.

Drawstring Bags
(ages 8-16)

$77-$110 | 3hrs | Ages 8-16

with Aliya

No experience required

Learn to use a sewing machine to sew a small drawstring bag. These are great for organizing toys, toiletries, and tiny treasures. No previous sewing experience is required! Sewing machine basics will be covered during class. 

Topics covered:

  • Using a sewing machine

  • Sewing simple seams, including backstitching

  • Processes and construction techniques

  • Using basic sewing tools like seam rippers and thread snippers

Please bring:

a water bottle, snack, and anything your child needs to be comfortable. Sensory aids are welcome.

Monster Stuffies
(ages 8-16)

$77-$110 | 3hrs | Ages 8-16

with Vivien

No experience required

Make your own monster! Learn to use a sewing machine to create a monster of your own design. Kids will use felt to create a monster stuffie with options for eyes, legs, arms and hair.

Topics covered:

  • Using a sewing machine

  • Designing your stuffie

  • Sewing simple seams, including backstitching

  • Techniques for working with felt

  • Using basic sewing tools like seam rippers and thread snippers

  • Using polyfil stuffing

Please bring:

a water bottle, snack, and anything your child needs to be comfortable. Sensory aids are welcome.

Roll-top Lunch Bag
(ages 8-16)

$77-$110 | 3hrs | Ages 8-16

with Vivien

No experience required

Create a classic insulated roll-up lunch bag to carry your lunch in style! Use a sewing machine to create this washable and space-saving bag. Easy to open and close with velcro, this lunch bag and folds flat when empty for space saving travel.

This project requires bringing your own fabric. Please see materials list below.

Topics covered:

  • Using a sewing machine

  • Sewing simple seams, including backstitching

  • Using basic sewing tools like seam rippers and thread snippers

  • Using velcro

Required materials (purchase and bring to class)

  • Fabric​​

    • ​Fabric should be medium weight (think dress shirt weight) and not stretchy (no t-shirt material, jersey knits, etc) Fabrics that work well are quilting cottons and lightweight canvas.

    • 1/2y fabric for outside of lunch bag

    • 1/2y fabric for inside of lunch bag

Vivien Wise

Vivien (she/her) is a fiber artist by trade with an MFA and BFA in Fiber Arts, and a 3rd generation quilter. Originally from Chicago, she is an avid sewist, bicyclist, and lover of breakfast. Vivien has taught workshops in a variety of locations to a variety of ages and abilities in the region and around the US. You can find her in her studio trying to figure out how to make kites, or online at vivienwise.com

Aliya Hoff-Vanoni

Aliya (she/they) learned to sew three years ago and was immediately hooked. They sew a little bit of everything—bags, garments, quilts—but especially enjoy making custom clothes for other people. As someone who identifies as neurodivergent, disabled, and chronically ill, Aliya is committed to offering accessible and supportive learning environments where students can build self-confidence and community. Aliya loves to work with beginners of all ages, as well as anyone who could use some gentle but enthusiastic moral support in their life.
