Intro to Sewing I

If you’ve never touched a sewing machine, this class is for you! Learn to use a sewing machine in a friendly and welcoming environment while making a super cool and useable reversible tote bag. During this class, we’ll work together to learn the very basics of using a sewing machine. We will set it up, learn some basic stitches, and make our bags together. Students may bring their own machine or use ours. All materials provided.

Intro to Sewing II - Zipper Pouch

Learn to make a simple zippered pouch in this three and a half hour class! This is a beginner focused class that starts with a quick refresh of how to set up your sewing machine. Students will make a custom sized pouch using studio materials, and get an introduction to working with zippers. This is a great scrap busting project and makes for excellent gifts!

Intro to Sewing II - Reusable Grocery Bag

Up your sustainability game with a cute Baggu-style grocery bag. Your new reusable grocery bag will be so cute, you’ll always remember to take it with you to the store. This is the perfect project if you’ve just taken our intro to sewing class and are looking for your next project. We will develop your new found skills and help you gain confidence in your sewing abilities!

Intro to Sewing II - Sewing Machine Skills

Please note we will not be making a project during this class. Instead, we'll be sewing small samples to practice different skills

Learn foundational sewing machine skills to help you tackle your next project. During this class we'll practice setting up our machines then learn a variety of sewing and sewing machine skills.

Serger Classes

Intro to Sergers

Level 2 | $125 | 3hrs | Ages 16+

Required: Intro to Sewing (or equivalent) + 1-3 small projects OR Intro to Sewing I and II OR equivalent skill level

Learn all about the serger! You’ll get to know how a serger works and when to use it, practice techniques on woven and knit fabric, learn how to thread the machine, and make your first project! Students will make a drawstring bag during class using only the serger. Materials are provided. Students are also welcome to bring their own fabric; you will need two two fat quarters or a half  yard of stable woven fabric such as quilting cotton or linen.

Students are welcome to bring their own serger from home, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to help thread the machine or troubleshoot any problems. Be sure to also bring the manual when bringing a machine in to the studio.


 

Garment Construction

Intro to Garment
Sewing I - Boxers

Level 2 | $125 | 3hrs | Ages 16+

Required experience: Intro to Sewing (or equivalent skill level) 

Dip your toe into garment sewing with these simple boxers! This class is perfect project after you've taken Intro to Sewing. For the beginner, who wants to dabble in making their own clothes. We'll be using the Bow Boxers pattern from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club, a gender-neutral and plus size friendly that can be made with or without the bow accents!

Intro to Garment Sewing II - Boxy Top

Level 2 | $140 | 4hrs | Ages 16+
Required: Intro to Sewing and Intro to Sewing II OR Intro to Sewing plus 1-3 small/medium projects OR equivalent skill level

In this class we will work step by step through the process of sewing a simple boxy top. Students will gain important sewing skills and confidence and will leave class with a brand new wardrobe staple to show off to their friends. Gender neutral and plus size friendly pattern!

Garment Sewing: Elastic Waist Pants

Level 3 | $245 | two 4hr session | Ages 16+

Required: Intro to Sewing and Intro to garment sewing OR Intro to Sewing and 2-3 small/medium projects, including at least one project using a sewing patterns OR equivalent skill level

Comfy elastic waist pants are the perfect entry point into pants-making! In this class students will choose from two patterns: The Free Range Slacks, which are a simple relaxed fit design, drafted for a cis woman's body, with a wide leg or tapered leg view and interesting construction details, or The Rambler Pants, which are designed for a cis man's body, have a faux fly and a slightly tapered leg. Elastic waist pants are like secret pajamas, comfy enough for lounging, but super stylish and cute on all types of bodies.

Sewing Basics - Hemming

Note: This class does not cover t-shirts/stretchy materials or bias-cut garments

We’ve all got that pile, you know the one! All of the curtains, pants, dresses, skirts, and tops that would be absolutely perfect if they were just the tiniest bit shorter. Learn this basic sewing skill and start using all those items that have been languishing unhemmed to their greatest potential. Hems covered will be basic and not suitable for more formal garments like slacks or trousers. Sewing with Knits: Hemming a T-shirt

Level 2 | $60 | 2.5hrs | Ages 16+

Required: Intro to Sewing and Intro to Sewing II/Intro to garment sewing OR Intro to Sewing and 2-3 small/medium projects OR equivalent skill level

Finally, a t-shirt that fits! In this class, students will learn how to hem a t-shirt step-by-step. This includes accurate cutting, pressing, and using a twin needle to hem to the exact length wanted. Please bring an old t-shirt you don't mind practicing on. Students will receive a twin needle to take home.

Quilt-making

Quilter's Workshop - Binding

Level 2 | $75 | 2.5hrs | Ages 16+
Intro to Sewing  + 1-3 small-medium projects OR  Intro to Sewing and Intro to Sewing II OR equivalent skill level

Quilter's workshops are bite-sized classes teaching one quilt-making skill.

 

In this class, we'll be focusing on binding--how to make it, sew it onto a quilt, and finishing techniques. Students will use studio-provided samples to practice on.

Intro to Quilt-making

Level 2 | $277-$395 | 3hrs; 5 weeks | Ages 16+

Required: Intro to Sewing  + 1-3 small-medium projects OR  Intro to Sewing and Intro to Sewing II OR equivalent skill level

This class requires about one hour of homework each week to finish on time, relative to your sewing skill level. Open studio hours are included in class fee.

Learn the time-honored tradition of quilt-making in this five week class! We’ll discuss materials, tools, and techniques used throughout the quilting process as we go step-by-step together. Students will go home with a 30”x30” mini quilt. All materials provided.  A fabric list will be sent upon signup if you would like to purchase your own fabric.

Improv Quilting

Level 1 | $45 | 2.5hrs | Ages 16+

Required: Intro to Sewing or equivalent skill level

In this class, you’ll learn three different techniques for using scraps to make simple patchwork. This is a great class for anyone who’s quilt-curious and/or looking for a creative and relaxing way to unwind and play with fabric. All materials provided, although you can bring your own scraps if you desire!

Please note we will only be making the quilt top, i.e. a single layer of patchwork. We will not be constructing the entire "quilt sandwich."

Hand Sewing + Mending

Hand Sewing
Techniques

Level 0 | $60 | 2.5hrs | Ages 16+

No experience required

Begin your hand sewing journey with this two and half hour intro class! This class will start with an overview of tools used in hand sewing. Students will learn a variety of stitches that can be used for different applications including mending, quilting, and garment making. Time will be reserved at the end for students to ask questions. All materials will be provided, although students are welcome to bring their own stitching supplies from home if desired. Students are also welcome to bring a notebook to take notes.

Embroidery Basics

Level 2 | $125 | 3hrs | Ages 16+

Required: Hand Sewing Techniques (or equivalent experience). Intro to Sewing is not required as this class will not use a machine.

Come learn the basics of hand embroidery! In this class we will learn a variety of different stitches to create beautiful and unique embroidery designs. All materials are provided and students will receive an embroidery hoop to take home.

Mending Skills - Sashiko

Level 1 | $60 | 4hrs | Ages 16+
Required: Hand Sewing Techniques (or equivalent experience). Intro to Sewing is not required as this class will not use a machine.

Learn to repair and decorate textiles with beautiful stitches! In this two and a half hour introductory class, students will learn the basics of mending and reinforcing woven fabrics using stitching inspired by Japanese sashiko.

Note: we will briefly discuss techniques for patching at the start of class, but there will not be class time dedicated to applying patches. If you would like to bring a mending project with you that has a large tear, please patch it before class.

Radical Mending

No experience required

Free - RSVP Required | 2hrs | Ages 16+

Hand sewing only. Machines will not be available for use.

Bring up to three items in need of mending and learn new skills from community members! Volunteers will be assisting participants in mending clothing, bags, toys, and more. Whether you are completely new to mending or just need a little advice, volunteers will work you one-on-one to help you with your mending goals.

Youth Sewing & Crafting

Roll-top Lunch Bag
(ages 8-16)

Create a classic insulated roll-up lunch bag to carry your lunch in style! Use a sewing machine to create this washable and space-saving bag. Easy to open and close with velcro, this lunch bag and folds flat when empty for space saving travel.

Monster Stuffies

Make your own monster! Learn to use a sewing machine to create a monster of your own design. Kids will use felt to create a monster stuffie with options for eyes, legs, arms and hair.

Drawstring Bags

Learn to use a sewing machine to sew a small drawstring bag. These are great for organizing toys, toiletries, and tiny treasures. No previous sewing experience is required! Sewing machine basics will be covered during class. 

Intro to Cross-stitch
(ages 10-16)

Learn the basics of cross stitch, an easy and addictive craft that just might become your new favorite hobby! Choose from several fun patterns and select your favorite thread colors to make a custom piece of fiber art. Cross stitch helps build hand-eye coordination and is an excellent entry point for other forms of hand sewing and embroidery. All tools and materials will be provided.

Crafting

Donut Pattern Weights

Level 0 | $60 | 3hrs | Ages 16+

No experience required

Please note: Donuts will need to be baked in an oven at home. Instructions and a donut box to take them home will be provided!

 

Come get crafty at Sincere Studio! We'll be making a set of 6 donut pattern weights out of polymer clay. All materials and tools provided. No experience required. Participants are welcome to BYOB (21+ for alcoholic drinks!).
